Dan's Story
Dan grew up in central Wisconsin. His early years were filled with pervasive financial insecurity, food-stamps, moving from house to house, and not having much more than the bare necessities. Those economic experiences had a profound impact emotionally, socially, and spiritually.
Dan’s love of music began in those early years—and it’s never gone away.
Before becoming a financial advisor, he forged a really fun and distinguished 25+ year career as an on-air radio personality - a “DJ” - on many top-rated radio stations around the country. Often dually serving as the radio stations’ Program Director Dan shaped the radio stations’ overall sound to resonate strongly with its target audience – leading to high audience market ratings.
Several years in corporate America followed radio.
But one day in 2000, without warning, he learned his executive-level job was gone. In an instant, life was upside-down. All those painful economic experiences and feelings from his early years flooded back.
Soon after, Dan had a “lightbulb” go on. He realized he had everything insured, like his family’s health, his life, their home, the cars. It struck him that he had insured everything except the one thing that paid for it all: his income stream. Forever an “employee” he’d kept giving control of that to someone else.
In a life-changing moment, Dan chose to pursue his hobby in investing and enter the financial services industry. In time, he formed and grew his own investment management and financial planning services practice that today is WealthBuilders. He found his on-air career had uniquely honed his ability as a financial advisor to communicate with clients. His Program Director positions had developed an uncanny knack for bringing multiple elements together creatively for meaningful results – just what financial planning is.
But of all the careers he could have pursued, why this one?
Why helping people with their finances?
Dan eventually realized his ‘why.” Those painful economic experiences from early childhood were still with him. Unconsciously, he had chosen to make it his life’s purpose to advise others, to help them avoid experiencing financial insecurities, as he had.
To help people experience feeling prosperous.
